Continental Express expanded their electric spotting services this week in Fort Worth, eliminating the need for a diesel-powered yard truck at one of Nestlé’s distribution centers. The move comes in partnership with the global food and beverage giant as the next step toward both companies’ sustainability goals.
In early 2024, Continental Express rolled out its first all-electric yard truck at Nestlé’s Jonesboro, Arkansas facility. With just over a year of successful, cleaner yard services under its belt, Continental is now implementing a second Orange EV truck with Nestlé, this time in Fort Worth, Texas. Continental Express opened its Fort Worth terminal in 2013 and partnered with Nestlé in April 2017 for yard management.
The implementation includes an onsite 70-kilowatt charging station, which Continental will maintain and leverage for opportunity charging to run the truck continuously.
“In Jonesboro, and now in Fort Worth, launching an electric truck has meant a practical, sustainable step forward for Nestlé. Making the switch from a diesel-powered truck is a near-seamless transition for our customers. We can continue delivering the same efficient yard management service, with less tailpipe emissions,” said Continental Express Co-President, Bradley Gottemoeller.
In 2019, Nestlé announced a global goal to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Understanding and supporting that goal, Continental Express has worked closely with Nestlé to make the supply chain greener.
“Every effort moving forward is a good one,” said Joe Collins, Continental Express’ Fort Worth Terminal Manager. “Continental Express’ philosophy of ‘Driving the Future, One Mile at a Time’ recognizes that gradual, positive efforts matter. The emissions saved by this one truck will help Nestlé move that next mile toward their net zero goal.”
At Nestlé Jonesboro, Continental Express reports a reduction of CO2 emissions by 54.9 tons in just one year of operation. Similar emission reduction is expected in Fort Worth.
Additionally, Continental Express has seen similar progress toward its own sustainability goals.
“Efficiency has long been embedded into the operations at Continental Express. Our team has worked diligently to reduce empty route miles. We have a standing fuel efficiency program that incentivizes drivers to optimize their habits on the road and in trip planning. Our shops also take great care of the equipment to aid in fuel efficiency, and we purchase new equipment annually,” said Gottemoeller. “The EV spotters are another leg of meeting our goals too.”
In addition to yard management services, Continental Express is a full-service logistics company with over 40 years of industry experience. They specialize in dedicated-route, temperature-controlled freight and operate out of nine terminal locations across the country.
