Breakdown Coordinator

Continental Express Inc. is a privately-owned, truckload carrier and full-service logistics company that specializes in the transport of temperature-controlled and dedicated-route freight. Our current fleet consists of 520 tractors and 1300 trailers. We are currently seeking a Breakdown Coordinator to help ensure the smooth operation of our fleet by coordinating breakdown assistance and maintenance activities.

This individual will be responsible for managing breakdown situations, communicating with drivers, dispatchers, and service providers to minimize downtime and ensure timely resolutions. This role requires technical knowledge of class 8 tractors and trailers, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work calmly under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle incoming calls and emails regarding Class 8 tractor and trailer breakdowns.
  • Coordinate breakdown assistance and maintenance services with internal and external service providers.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers to provide updates on repair status and estimated down time.
  • Prioritize breakdown situations based on urgency and impact on operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of breakdown incidents, repairs and associated costs.
  • Work closely with dispatchers and management to adjust schedules and routes to minimize disruptions caused by breakdowns.
  • Monitor service provider performance and escalate issues as necessary to ensure quality and timely repairs.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement to streamline breakdown management procedures.
  • Assist in developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs to reduce breakdown occurrences.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to drivers and internal stakeholders by addressing concerns and inquiries promptly.
  • Act as a liaison and keep open lines of communication between dispatchers, shop personnel and the safety team regarding accidents and DOT issues.
  • Schedule trailer maintenance as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • Prior diesel mechanic experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and mechanical terminology.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Proficiency using computer systems and software for data entry and communication purposes.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional certification or training in transportation or logistics is preferred.
