The Ohio Trucking Association Board of Trustees elected Kiera Sullivan, General Counsel at Continental Express and second-generation member of the family-owned business, as its 56th Chair. The announcement of Sullivan’s year-long tenure as Chair came in late September at the OTA Annual Conference in Columbus, Ohio.
“I am incredibly honored to be the Chairperson of the Ohio Trucking Association, and I look forward to serving our industry further in this role,” said Sullivan.
Sullivan is only the third woman named to chair the Ohio Trucking Association (OTA) in its 108-year history. Since 2018, Kiera has served the OTA in various capacities on the association’s board of trustees. Her career at Continental Express officially began in May 2012, but Sullivan’s relationship to the company and the trucking industry is lifelong.
“I grew up watching my parents build Continental Express from the ground up and navigate the many challenges that come with starting and growing a company in such a demanding industry. From a very young age, I was fortunate to work alongside them, gaining firsthand experience and learning the many facets of the business. That experience has shaped who I am professionally and personally, and I’m extremely proud to be part of this industry.” Sullivan recalled.
“The Ohio Trucking Association represents hundreds of carriers who are doing the same thing and ultimately move the economy of our state and the nation. What excites me most about serving as OTA chair is getting to help the industry advocate for meaningful changes that allow all carriers to thrive.”
A two-time alumna of the University of Dayton, Kiera joined Continental Express after graduating from the university’s business and then law programs and having worked in private practice for a couple of years.
In addition to the OTA, Sullivan is an American Trucking Association Board of Trustees Executive Committee member, and a Sidney-Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Board of Trustees Executive Committee member.
The Ohio Trucking Association represents and supports over 815 Ohio companies in the trucking industry. In addition to advocacy, the association creates opportunities for networking and professional growth through programs like the Ohio Trucking Safety Council and an Ohio Chapter of Women in Motion—the American Truck Association’s initiative to elevate and support women in transportation and logistics, where Sullivan previously served on the advocacy subcommittee.
Industry promotion efforts like the Ohio Trucking Association’s Driver of the Year award spotlight exceptional professional driving. Continental Express dedicated driver David Wolford earned this recognition in recent years when he was named the 2022 OTA Driver of the Year. With the OTA’s support, Wolford later went on to win the American Trucking Association’s 2023 National Driver of the Year.
